| James Davidson was born at Hopeman in April 1896 and grew up in Hopeman within sound of the sea. As a twelve year old boy he accepted Christ as his 'Saviour'. In 1921 he was accepted by the Baptist Missionary Society for service overseas, at this time he was a member of Hopeman Baptist Church. He went on to study at the Bible Training Institute in Glasgow and later in Brussels, before leaving for the Belgian Congo the following year. He married Mary Sutherland in 1923, a fellow member of Hopeman Baptist Church. They came home from the Belgian Congo in 1952. Below are two pictures of the walking stick which Jim speaks of as he recalls his time in Africa, The first image shows the walking stick in its entirety.The actual length is about one metre.
