Friendship Hour Friendship Hour is a very relaxed and friendly meeting which is held every second Tuesday afternoon from October through to March. There is a welcome for all, from two years of age through to 92 years of age. Mothers with young children, mothers who have older children at school or at work along with Gran's and Granda's, all are most welcome. The afternoon takes the form of a welcome and opening prayer, followed by the singing of some favourite hymns. There is an invited speaker who may share a message from the Bible or perhaps share with you how they themselves became a Christian. The afternoon concludes with tea, coffee and a biscuit along with a time of fellowship together and is particularly appreciated by senior citizens and those who live alone who enjoy a chat with old friends and the opportunity to make new friends as well. If you feel awkward about coming for the first time on your own then let us know by contacting one of the contacts mentioned on the pages of this website. Do come and join us, we would love to meet you. Our winter programme for 2008 - 2009 is now available and intimated below. October 7th. Rev. Edward Holloway. October 21st. Mr. George Main. November 4th. Rev. Graham Swanson. November 18th. Mr. Peter Cordiner. December 2nd. Christmas Tea.

Prayer & Bible Study Our meeting on Wednesday evening consists as the name suggests a time of bible study and prayer, with perhaps two or three hymns included. The meeting usually lasts around an hour to an hour and a quarter and is open to all who wish to attend. The Bible Study is taken by our Minister. Rev.Stuart J. Macdonald. April saw us start a study entitled:- "Band of Brothers". A study of the Twelve Disciples. Our next study commenced in June entitled:- "The Seven Lampstands." a study of the book of "Revelation". We have just embarked on a new study entitled:- "A Man after God's own Heart". (A study in the life of David.) Please do not be put off by the thought that you might be called upon to pray publicly, you will not be, if however you feel that you would like to say a word of prayer please feel free to do so. |
On Monday the 7th of February 2005 we started a week of prayer starting at 7-30pm each evening and concluding on Friday the 11th of February. The focus of our "Prayers" was then and still is, the village of Hopeman,~~ its life, its people, its school and staff along with all the organizations and occupations that contribute to the social and economic life of the village. The Church too is part of the village of Hopeman and aims to be part of its "Future."

“he refused to believe it unless he saw Jesus for himself” |
Seeing is believing... It is very easy to believe what we see. When we see something take place we are witnesses, eye witnesses to that event. However, if you were not present when the event took place and did not see it you would find it difficult to accept or believe, especially if it were some remarkable event. When Jesus, the Son of God, rose from the dead after three days he appeared to his disciples, but Thomas one of the disciples was not there. When he was told that Jesus was alive he refused to believe it unless he saw Jesus for himself. A few days later Jesus again appeared to his disciples and Thomas was present. When he saw Jesus he put his hand into his wounded side, seeing the nail-pierced hands Thomas could only say "MY LORD AND MY GOD". The words of Jesus recorded in John Chapter 20: Verse 29 are worth noting. Because you have seen me you have believed: blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed. When by faith we believe in Jesus death and resurrection we see Jesus in all his beauty and humility. Jesus who came from the glory of heaven to die on a cross at Calvary to purchase our redemption. We read in Romans Chapter 10: Verse 9, If you confess with your mouth 'Jesus is Lord' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead you will be saved. Yes seeing is believing, but for the Christian BELIEVING IS SEEING.
